![]() ![]() It isn’t some victory for match construction so much as it is for ideological purity and not wasting a moment of your time by devoting it or, more accurately, vaguely motioning towards the idea of devoting it to stuff the world knows you don’t actually care about at all. Obviously, I care a lot about honesty in wrestling and specifically, this match does a ton for me by never ever trying to hide what it is. It’s the rare match like this that is actually better off as a full match than it is condensed into a music video or chopped into GIFs. This is a really unbelievable match, and one of the very best pure spotfests of the entire decade. I will no longer be taking shit, because it almost completely holds up. I figured that, yeah, I was just in a really good spot to be blown away by something like this again, and it probably wasn’t half as great as I had it down as on a spreadsheet.įUCK YOU, I WAS RIGHT, THIS ABSOLUTELY HOLDS UP. Even when home for the summer, I don’t think I was really interested in it, because for once WWE television was satisfying my need to watch good professional wrestling matches.įor years, I’ve taken shit about overrating this match. ![]() I’m not certain that I saw any new and non-WWE wrestling from late 2012 when I feel like I ordered Final Battle 2012 on iPPV to maybe the late summer of 2013, perhaps even the fall. Things didn’t interest me as much, and being away at college where I couldn’t illegally download wrestling made things harder. I stopped watching CHIKARA in real time at some point in 2012 too. I had sort of trailed off during the Davey Era, and largely only watched things for Generico or Callihan or whomever. I had stopped watching independent wrestling for a little bit around 20. It was just, at one point, the first match back from a break that I had taken from most other wrestling and just really hit me in the right place at the right time in the exact right way to get me excited about wrestling again. My fandom was never “in danger” by watching this, it didn’t save anything.
